I have been making a film about my own experience as a victim of child abuse and subsequent Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I touch on topics of how to deal with the Trauma and CPTSD through therapy of using photography, painting, film and text.
From child abuse to drug abuse, from dealing with death to dealing in life, join award-winning film maker Simon Lamb on the ‘off the rails’ rollercoaster ride that’s been his story so far. It’s a true ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll’ adventure, as Simon moves on from being sexually abused at school to modelling alongside some of the world’s sexiest women. From there he works the doors of the world’s best known clubs, shamelessly consuming the drugs he confiscates from others, before going on to work security for some of the biggest names in music like Madonna and U2. Things take a turn when Simon is forced to confront his own demons of depression and mental health. But it’s death he also needs to face up to when his brother’s killed in a tragic Swiss Alps skiing accident. This leads he and his mother on a cathartic journey to retrieve the body – and it’s through documenting that story, and the countless tales of others that Simon has brought to the fore through his film making – that he finally comes to terms with telling his own trippy tale in its entirety. The Closest Place To Heaven
This films protagonist is Simon Lambs mother Joan Lamb, its her unique Journey through grief. This is the story of Hayden Lambs death (her eldest son) in Switzerland and the roll Simon plays as the filmmaker constantly worried for his mums highly emotional feelings while filming this documentary.
Serendipity Surf Film
Serendipity, the documentary, is a film about Anthony Hussein Hinde, Tony’s story is one of the truly great surf fairytales. Tony was a 20 year old Australian who went on a surfing adventure at a time when many of
the world’s best surf breaks where yet to be discovered. The word Serendipity means the unlikely and unintended discovery of good fortune; it is a beneficial accident or a cool suprise. By the most Serendipitous chain of events Tony found himself shipwrecked on a deserted island in the middle of the Indian ocean, on the then-unknown Maldives.
Tony stumbled across a multitude of discoveries, perfect surf on a chain of tropical coral attols, eastern islamic culture and a new personal identity. Tony had access to a fleet of perfect waves for 15 years.
Alone! Over that time he had only a few select friends who visited. Amazingly non of the lucky few broke the agreed-upon code of silence. Eventually Tony’s secret was exposed, he protected those waves as long as he could. Tony realised that if he could not own the waves then he would provide the best surf travel experience by starting the only dedicated and most successful surf camp in the Maldives.
Tony Hussein Hinde is considered to be the father of surfing in the Maldives, not only did he kick started the nation’s emerging tourism industry he also found his own personal nirvana and livelihood.
